Festival Time in Melrose

Melrose in June means two things: the Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival (13-16th), swiftly followed by Melrose Festival Week (16th-22nd), both of which offer colour, excitement and entertainment!

Melrose High Street

The book festival brings all manner of bibliophiles and the glitteriest of literati to town, while the Melrose festival gives the community the chance to celebrate all that’s good about the town’s traditions. Now, if we could cling on to the wonderful sunshine that we’ve been enjoying recently, all would be well with the world!

Commissioned craftwork pieces

For our part, we’ve been having a great time commissioning a selection of items with a distinctly Melrose flavour for our festival window display to add to the other wonderful handcrafted pieces that we already sell. So we’re thrilled to have mischievous miniature ‘meeces’ from Quernus Crafts - Daisy the cow and Doogie the dragon from DoodleCrafts – mosaic blackbirds and jewellery from Box of Frogs Mosaics and Melrose hearts from Heart of the Borders!

Handcrafted items

Joining them will be paintings by Borders artist, Shona Lenaghan – clocks and barometers in beautiful hand-turned wood by David White Eildon Bears from Suzanne Kirk – glass blackbirds and hearts by Jessica Stroud of Greengage Glass and handmade soaps/bath truffles from Ceri at Oakwood Soaperie and Jill at Planet Soap. So you see, there will be plenty of talent on display!

Melrose Mugs

Of course, we couldn’t forget our very own Melrose mugs, so here’s to the festivals – cheers!

We have all sorts of new stock and hope you’ll be able to call in to see it soon. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine!
