It's 1st November, the clocks have gone back an hour, nights are longer and the weather has had some decidedly wintry moments lately but, hopefully, we can still offer you a warm place full of interest and colour to brighten the days. And, the brightest piece of news is the arrival of the Present Perfect Privilege Card, our very own loyalty card!
Simply collect a stamp each time you shop (no value limits) and when it is full (six stamps) it can be redeemed on your next purchase for a 10% discount. We are very happy to be able to thank our regular customers for their support in this way. Pick up your card next time you are in the shop.
As the Festive Season approaches we are also introducing a gift wrapping service using our in-house paper (designs may vary) and simple trimming. This service will be FREE when you spend £10 or more but you can also add extra trimming, for example with wire-edged ribbon, for a small charge. Whilst we all love unwrapping gifts some of us find the wrapping process a little more fraught so we hope that the *service will be useful for everyone.
*(During busy periods it may be necessary for customers to collect their wrapped purchases a little later.)
With Christmas on the horizon it's natural to begin thinking about the cards and gifts that you need. Making a list is a great way to start and we hope that Present Perfect will be the first name on it! As ever, we aim to have a selection of things in the shop to suit a variety of needs, tastes and budgets -from Secret Santa presents and stocking fillers to something a little more special.
The latest arrivals include handmade glass from Scotland and Poland. From Carrie Paxton in Edinburgh we have "Pringle" dishes, long slim dishes with a variety of hand painted designs. We decided to be wholeheartedly festive with snowflakes, geese and robins but there is the odd non-seasonal design too!
Maintaining the animal theme are these fun sculptures from Nobilé, handmade by Polish artisans. These have already attracted lots of attention and we're aiming to get more soon.
More toiletries have arrived from Berkeley Square Cosmetics including their latest release "Black Cassis" eau de parfum, a fine quality fragrance made from British blackcurrant essential oils with lavender, patchouli and vetiver. This is partnered with a body lotion and hand cream, all sporting another fabulous original 1920s design by artist Gordon Conway. We believe that the 1920s range has the most stylish packaging in the marketplace and with prices from only £4.95 makes a great gift.
Arriving soon, colourful scarves, throws/table runners and cosmetic purses from Le Sac Maroc. These items, traditionally made in Morocco from sabra (cactus silk) and chenille are certain to brighten the surroundings while adding a touch of luxury.
Is there a collective noun for candles? because we have a veritable blaze, cornucopia, galaxy! When the evenings draw in there is nothing more welcoming than candle glow and we have more than a dozen different styles and myriad fragrances. WoodWick's crackling wick is ever popular and we have six ranges from which to choose. Beanpod and Heyland & Whittle both produce environmentally friendly and stylish soy wax candles. Once again we have four festive fragrances in great value candles from Torc. So, whether you prefer festive or everyday fragrances or unperfumed church candles we have something sure to suit from £2.15 to £19.99. We also have a selection of reed diffusers and some festive room sprays.
Our Christmas cards are on sale now. Mainly in packs of five or six with both single and mixed designs. Ranging from £2.95 to £4.95 per pack they offer excellent quality and value. New designs from Milkwood feature the cute teddy bear, Heston, in six different illustrations. Why not let him convey your Christmas greetings this year?
Of course, we have several ranges of jewellery including handmade pieces in glass and ceramic from Jules Jules and Jules+Fiona; freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals from Jill Ferguson; Venetian glass from Hearts & Crosses. Plus solid silver pendants and earrings from JSK Jewellery, based in Fife, along with fashion pieces from Look East Australia, Shudehill and a new company, Maramode. The gentlemen don't have to feel left out because we also have a variety of Gifts for Him from fun puzzles and key rings to leather wallets, cufflinks, clocks and pocket binoculars.
Add to this all manner of ornamental and decorative pieces for the home from photo frames and vases to side tables, console tables and table lamps and we like to think that we have something for everyone whether you are looking for gifts or a finishing touch for your sitting room or a guest bedroom. And as always we choose these items to offer you quality, value and something that little bit different.

Finally, on Wednesday 23 November we will be at the Gibson Park Playgroup Christmas Fair in the Corn Exchange, Melrose. This takes place in the evening between 6pm and 9pm, there's a raffle and usually a glass of wine available to help make this opportunity for present shopping an enjoyable time. Maybe we'll see you there, otherwise we look forward to helping with your Christmas present list when you pop into the shop. Warmest wishes!
