Join Us For Late Night Shopping!

Hello and welcome.

Along with some other Melrose shops we will be having a late night opening on Thursday this week, to which you are cordially invited! And the best thing is, you can SAVE 10 % on everything you buy! What better incentive to finish off your Christmas shopping - or start it even?! Fingers crossed, the weather will be kinder than it was recently and you'll be able to enjoy walking around the town, soaking up the festive atmosphere.

The WoodWick candles festive fragrances are in. We have 'Trilogy' in Frasier Fir/Mistletoe Magic/Woodland or Cranberry Fig/Red Raspberries/Mulled Berries combinations (£13.99). Remember, these burn for up to 100 hours!
A new introduction is 'Perfect Harmony', a trio of dishes in a suite of fragrances for the Christmas season. The trio shown in the photo (above) is Peppermint Cocoa/Sugar Cookies/Buttered Rum. There is also Frasier Fir/Woodland/Redwood in shades of green and Holiday Hearth/Fireside/Holiday Glow in reds. These are £17.99.

Or how about the new 'Petites' gift sets of four votive candles in Holiday Cheer or Woodland Walk combinations at only £9.99?
Once again we have WoodWick minis in Holiday Glow, Frasier Fir and Cranberry Chutney: 40 hours of fragrance for £9.99.
Finally, we have a very few of WoodWick's Holiday Glow fragrance in the red 'Dancing Flame' container at £19.99.
Regular buyers know what excellent value these candles represent and any of the styles/fragrances would add the perfect finishing touch to your home's holiday atmosphere.

We have also just received the last few items we had on order from Orchid Designs, any of which would make a welcome addition to someone's Christmas stocking. There is a treble clef magnetic paper clip holder, ideal for the study or home office, £12.95. Silverplated heart decorations on red ribbon at £7.95 for the pair. A very small flock of friendly jewelled robins (£29.95) is back, to join the bluebird, wren and woodpecker trinket boxes that arrived earlier in the year. And there's also a Scottie/West Highland Terrier ring holder to join the Dachshund already in stock (£6.50). The last item is a bookmark topped with a tiny angel; what could be more appropriate for the bookworm in your family at this time of year?

As ever, these are just a few of the great gift ideas you will find in the shop, so why not join us on Thursday night, help yourself to a mince pie and save some money too! If you can't make it then, remember that we're open 7 days a week until Christmas Eve: Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm, Sunday & Monday 12 noon - 4pm.  We look forward to seeing you.

Warmest Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you all.

November Update!

In our earlier posting, we promised you details of the lighting and other decorative pieces that had just arrived from Pacific Lifestyle. These things are now on display in the shop, so here are a few photographs. The table lamps, above, came in at very attractive prices, making them excellent value. They range from £45 to £95 each, complete with shade, and you can save an extra 10 per cent if you buy a matching pair! Ideal if you are freshening up the guest room ready for the festive season or simply want to brighten the long winter nights!

Casting a warm, welcoming glow can also be done by these super candle lanterns. The tall, cylinder hurricane lamp is an impressive 45cm high and would look good in any part of the house. At £29.95 (candle and glass beads not included) it is exceptional value. The tradition lantern is also a good buy at £24.50. Both lanterns could easily cost twice as much. The "fruit bowls" are made from recycled glass in Spain. The round one is available in what is called an alabaster pattern, in either translucent white or blue at only £7.95.

You see the bowls again here, along with a banana bowl shape (left), only in blue at £10.95. The large flower-shaped bowl in turquoise and gold looks suitably celebratory for only £19.95. We also have a large platter in a black and silver "starburst" shape (not shown) that is rather more expensive at £39.95. This picture also shows a WoodWick Fusion candle in handblown glass with a 'linen bouquet' fragrance (£14.95); a small vase in turquoise sparkle glass (£17.50) and one of Suzanne Kirk's handmade owls (£8).

More lanterns are available in this cream colour with a gold wash, in three sizes. At only £6.95, £10.95 and £15.95 any combination can make an effective display. As can these friendly ceramic bears! With a crackle glaze and rustic finish, their charm never fails (£5.95 and £9.95).

The shop is bursting with all sorts of wonderful ideas for gifts and home decor, more than we can show here. We hope that many of them could help solve your shopping needs and we look forward to seeing you.

Please note that after close of business on Saturday 27 November, Present Perfect will remain closed until 10 a.m. on Thursday 2 December. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. From 2 December until Christmas Eve, however, we will be open seven days a week:
Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday & Monday 12 noon to 4 p.m.

What's New in November!

Hello and welcome to our Blog. Much though we may not like to think about it, Christmas is fast approaching, which means new stock keeps arriving in the shop.

First on the list is a super selection of gift sets from Berkeley Square Cosmetics 1920s range. We have had BSQ's individual toiletry items in stock for some time but they have now created attractive combinations, ideal for making the recipient feel pampered! And the prices represent great value too.

There are two options in the Fig & Cherry and White Tea fragrances: a gift box containing 150ml body lotion, 125ml hand cream and 100g shea butter soap at £9.95 or a handy travel pouch with 100ml bottles of body lotion, bath & shower cream, shampoo and a small soap all for £7.95. (Please remember that you can click on photographs to enlarge.)

In Rose Petal fragrance is a beautifully boxed set of 50ml eau de toilette and 125ml hand cream for £12.95. We also have special value duo packs in all four fragrances (the fourth one is Lime & Clarysage) of 250ml bottles of body lotion and bath & shower cream for only £9.99. A new supply of their individual bars of soap in a tin has also arrived and, at only £4.95, they make excellent 'Secret Santa' gifts. In fact, we have a variety of items in the shop with price tags under the £5 and £10 mark that are ideal stocking fillers.

From Shudehill, candle plates with sparkly designs in various colours are available in two sizes at £5.50 and £10.50. Red glass tea-light holders, painted with a picture of Santa and a snowman come as a pair at £4.75 or, from Parlane, you could have a pair (unpainted) in two-tone smoked/white glass at £5.50.

Keeping to the sparkly theme, more solid silver pendants and earrings have arrived from JSK Jewellery. These are decorated with cubic zirconia crystals and freshwater pearls. The pieces range from under £20 to around £40, each beautifully boxed. In this instance, the photograph doesn't really do them justice!

Don't forget that we have several gifts suitable for gentlemen too, amongst which are these wooden puzzles (above right). For only £4.50, you could keep someone occupied for hours!

4D Art have branched out with some new designs in their 'Musical Notes' series in the form of these photograph frames/stands (3rd, 4th & 5th from left). We also have a few of their musical motif ornaments and a small supply of mini note hanging decorations. Completing the list is a beautiful figurine of a ballet couple and, from the 'Animal Forms' series, a new elephant. Prices range from £4 for a hanging decoration (box of three shown, £11.95) up to £59.50 for the ballet figures.

In the candle department, attractive gift boxes from Torc contain two large candle bowls; one set is fragranced with frankincense & myrrh and the other with cinnamon spice. They cost £22.75. Before the end of the month, we also expect to receive WoodWick candles in festive fragrances.

Actually, we have received a new consignment this very day from Pacific Lifestyle who supplies us with lighting, decorative objects and recycled glass items. The good news is that we have been able to obtain them at great value prices which will make some wonderful bargains. Once I've been able to unpack and check the goods I'll provide you with all the details.

Last but definitely not least, we have fun, calico moose from Parlane to brighten your Christmas season plus more of the large and small, super soft teddies that were so popular earlier in the Summer. Ideal for the young at heart no matter what their age! Another character who arrived in the shop recently is Hadrian from Eildon Bears (below). He is beautifully handmade in an unusual olive mohair and, at 37cm tall, he is larger than usual. He must also have hankerings to replace Rudolph at the head of Santa's sleigh team because he has a red nose! At £125 he isn't cheap but he would make someone a very special friend.

We have all sorts of excellent gift ideas, so please remember to make PRESENT PERFECT the first name on your Christmas list!

October Roundup!

Hello and welcome to our Blog. There is definitely a nip in the air nowadays even if it is accompanied by bright blue skies and, of course, we will be putting the clocks back very soon; all of which makes this the time of year when the warm, welcoming glow of candlelight comes into its own! Our Beanpod and WoodWick candles offer a range of fragrances and we have traditional, church-style, unperfumed ones in four sizes.

New in are 9.5oz fragranced candles from Torc in Ireland. These burn for up to 65 hours, are beautifully boxed and, at only £4.99 each, make a super gift or personal treat! The four fragrances are: French Vanilla, Cinnamon Spice, Cranberry & Orange and Mulled Wine. Please remember to click on the photos to enlarge.

We also have some artificial, church-style, 8 inch (20cm) pillar candles! Made from real wax, with a subtle vanilla scent, they are battery-operated and offer the effect of a gently flickering candle flame for only £6.50. This photograph shows how attractive they can look.

Have you seen our latest photograph frames? There is one 7x5 size (£14.95) and two frames in 6x4 (£12.95), each with a different, classically influenced design. We also have a larger 8x10 wooden frame which comes with a mount enabling use for 7x5 prints too.

The elephant lovers amongst you will enjoy seeing this attractive pair from Shudehill. They are in a pale marble effect finish with gold highlights and cost £11.75 each. Or how about a silver-coloured elephant ring holder from Orchid? These have proved very popular in the past. There is a fun dachshund ring holder too.

Last month I mentioned that we would be ordering Christmas cards and wrapping paper from Milkwood. These are now in stock and on display along with all our other cards. Milkwood cards are available singly at the fantastic price of 75p each. Wrapping paper is available in four designs; 2 x holly, mistletoe and robin at the special price of only 99p per sheet, including a gift tag. Bug Art and Little Acorn cards come in packs of five; some, all of one design and others mixed, priced from £2.95 to £4.95.  A few of the designs are displayed in the sidebar. We also have two sizes of gift bag available with a cute Santa design; great value at £1.25 & £1.75 each.

We also received a new supply of Milkwood's usual giftwrap and currently have ten designs to offer. These are £1.30 per sheet.

As well as being able to read our monthly newsletter here on the blog, we also post a version on our website which you may prefer to read there or subscribe to our posts feed. As well as our latest news, the website gives an overview of the ranges we stock, so please feel free to have a look at any time. The address is:

Please note that we will be closed on Friday 29 October and Tuesday 2 November. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

On 3 November we will be taking part in a Christmas Fair at the Melrose Corn Exchange which is organised as a fundraising evening by Gibson Park Playgroup. This will be our fourth year. It takes place between 7 - 10 p.m. Admission costs £2 and includes a glass of wine. A variety of local businesses participate and it's a good opportunity to make a start with your Christmas shopping. There is also a raffle. Do say hello if you come along.

3 September 2010

September Selection.

Hello and welcome. September is being ushered in with some clear, bright days, so let's hope that the trend is set to continue. It can be one of the nicest months in Scotland, which helps to compensate for the fact that the nights will begin to draw in!

Whatever the season, however, new items continue to arrive at Present Perfect. During August we received a selection of fashion jewellery from Look East Australia. These bracelets and necklaces come in a variety of styles and range in price from £5.80 to around £20.

A new range just in is from Scottish-based JSK Jewellery (above). (You can click on any photograph to enlarge). These solid silver pendant necklaces are neat and stylish. Some are decorated with cubic zirconia crystals or semi precious stones such as amber, turquoise or moonstone. These pieces range from a very reasonable £14.50 to £42.50.

"Letters are among the most significant memorial a person can leave behind them." Goethe (1749-1832) German writer and philosopher.

Do you keep a diary or write in a journal? Or perhaps you still enjoy writing letters the old-fashioned way? Then our new range of Autograph pens could bring a flourish to your words. These pens are beautifully produced and have attractive barrel designs in a variety of colours and styles suitable for ladies or gentlemen. Mainly, they use rollerball ink cartridges which give the convenience of a ballpoint while your writing has the traditional ink-look of a fountain pen. Each pen is attractively boxed. So, if you feel stuck for words, a beautiful new pen may be just the thing to enable your creativity to flow and can make even the shortest note special!

"What a lot we lost when we stopped writing letters. You can't reread a phone call."  Liz Carpenter (1920-2010), US writer, feminist, political humorist.

Hot off the delivery van are some pieces from Orchid Designs. You can see a treble clef keyring and musical note bookmark in the picture above, just two of several new pieces. Some of you may also remember the beautiful jewelled and enamelled birds that we have sold previously. Each one forms a tiny trinket box for storing something special. We have a wren (see upper pen picture), woodpecker and bluebird (below left). Below right is a rather stylish desk clock, based on a classic car steering wheel, which would make an ideal present for a man. We also have a complementary key ring. These, along with some of our pen designs, mean gentlemen are well catered for this month!

Finally, if I dare mention it, our first consignment of Christmas cards has arrived! Don't worry, they're not on display just yet but if you like to get ahead with such things you can always ask to see the designs we have available. The current selection from Bug Art and Little Acorn come in packs of five cards. We shall also be ordering new designs from Milkwood later in September. The Milkwood wrapping paper that we told you about in June has sold very well and we understand that they are introducing Christmas designs, so we are eagerly waiting to see what will be available.

We look forward to seeing you. In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of Autumn!

August Event !

Hello and welcome to this month's newsletter. Please remember that you can click on any photograph to enlarge.

The gang's here to tell you the latest news! These soft and fluffy ducks, rabbits and teddies have the best seat in the house (we told you about in last month's post) from which to survey the beautiful table lamps that are on sale during August. Just like last year, we're having an
August Event
and all our electric lighting and wall pictures will have at least
20% off
throughout the month.

Just think, a beautiful Mindy Brownes' table lamp will become even greater value for money, while others will make unbelievable bargains, so don't delay!

Keeping to the theme of light, we are thrilled to tell you about a newly arrived candle range, called Beanpod, from the USA. Beanpod pride themselves on being "green" and the candles are made from pure soy, with a lead-free wick. They are presented in a jar etched with their distinctive soy bean design and topped with a bright metal lid which also acts as a coaster.

The candles currently come in  five fragrances, in three sizes:    7.5 oz, 10.5 oz, 18.5 oz, priced from £11.95 to £19.95. With fragrances such as 'Summer Nights' (raspberry, grapefruit), 'Evening Glow' (fir, orange & lemon), 'Fireside Chat' (cedar, eucalyptus), 'Cocktail Delight' (citrus, cilantro) and 'Smiles & Laughs' (lotus, ginger & water lily) there's sure to be one for you.

We also have new arrivals from WoodWick candles. PETITES are their latest votive candles. Complete with its own glass container, each candle burns for up to 20 hours and costs only £2.95. Also we have four new fragrances from the Fusion range: Linen Bouquet, Water Mint, Raspberry Mojito and Orange Gingersnap. Each in a unique hand blown glass container. The good news is that these are at a new LOWER price of £14.95, saving £2 !

The cute animal door stops that we told you about in June have sold very well and so we took the opportunity to order some slightly different ones when we were in Harrogate last month. This amusing cat or donkey will do good service for only £14.95.

A few new jewellery pieces are in stock, including these dichroic glass pendants. By their nature, they are difficult to photograph because the glass fools the camera focus(!) but, hopefully, this gives you an idea: (l to r) lilac/blue, deep blue and rust/gold. There is also a turquoise blue/green. Each one is unique. The pendants are strung on cord and ribbon and, at only £7.50 each, you can ring the changes!

Now, cast your mind back to the time you enjoyed looking through a kaleidoscope! Well, those times can be here again with this neat version from Shudehill. The honeycomb lens creates the image from whatever you choose to look at, so the permutations are literally endless. The tooled leather barrel comes in three colours: brown, burgundy and black. For only £7.50, you can feel young again!

Also in the picture (above left), is one of the two new photograph frames we have, in the current fashion for subject specific frames. "Family" has a brown gloss frame while "Friends" is purple. At only £6.95 each it makes sense to get those prints off the computer and on show!

For August, we have all sorts of fabulous bargains and interesting new stock to show you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

7 July 2010

It Will Soon Be Time For Harrogate Home & Gift!

Hello and welcome to our Blog. Mid-July brings with it the Home & Gift trade fair in Harrogate. If the weather is fine, it's enjoyable to wander around the venues in the town centre, spread between the conference centre and several large hotels, to see what the autumn/winter season has to offer (I know, some of you haven't had a summer holiday yet!).

The only slight frustration sometimes when visiting trade fairs is having to wait for the ordered goods to arrive. For example, we have recently received a few pieces of mahogany furniture that we saw back in February! There is a rather attractive basket weave chair, a 'torchere' or plant stand table and a nest of 3 tables (one of which you can see in the photo above). It's nice to be able to ring the changes in the shop when such items come in.

We also have some newer lighting pieces on display and here are a couple of the table lamps. On the left is a small buffet lamp with a ceramic base from Mindy Brownes Interiors, priced £90. The pillar lamp (right) is metal with a painted surface, brass highlights and a champagne-coloured silk shade. It costs £65. Each lamp is available as a pair, which would also give you a ten per cent saving on the individual price! The pillar lamp is sitting on the torchere table and you can also see two of the elegant 4D Art lady figurines in the picture. Remember that you can click on the photographs to enlarge them.

In last month's newsletter you may remember the three new Eildon Bears that had arrived. Well, 'Berowalt', the miniature tweed bear, sold very quickly and has now been replaced with 'Chartreuse' above. The name is taken from the yellow-green mohair fur and continues the theme begun with 'Kirsche'. You will also notice a new owl design. Made from Jane Churchill materials, this cute character has a lot of hand sewn detailing and costs £15.

As I'm sure you know by now, we love all things candle-related and I thought I'd draw your attention to these tea-light holders. The individual crystal holders can be used in so many places where gentle candlelight is wanted and at only £4.95 each they are excellent value. The triple holder (£19.95) has diamond-shaped crystals held suspended between partially mirrored glass panels which makes a very attractive effect. Ideal for use on the dining table where the low level flame won't hinder across-table conversation. Candles/candlesticks, hurricane lanterns, vases and other home decor objects make excellent gifts for any and all occasions but especially perhaps if you have any summer weddings coming up.

We'll be looking out for all sorts of new things in Harrogate and we look forward to seeing you too on your next visit to Present Perfect.

12 June 2010

All Wrapped Up!

Hello and welcome to our Blog. Despite it being June, the weather doesn't appear to realise and so we are adding our own touch of Summer with these beautiful new wrapping papers from Milkwood. This seems a natural extension of their greeting card collection and we have chosen these nine floral designs. They are printed on pearlised paper and come, folded, complete with a matching gift tag. We hope you agree that they will make any gift that bit more special and all for only £1.30 per sheet.

Along with the giftwrap, we also have many new card designs in stock, still excellent value at £1.20.

In the past month we have sold two of Suzanne Kirk's handmade Eildon Bears: Brombeere (left) and Thorbernus (right), although I always think of him as Cuthbert! We are glad they have gone to new homes.

So we asked Suzanne to bring some more friends into the shop and are happy to announce the arrival of these three: each one unique and with very different personalities.

Art has silk "fur", wears a wooden heart pendant and costs £40. Kirsche (cherry) is made of dark-tipped pink mohair and wears a metal heart pendant and chain. She is £57. Berowalt is a miniature bear in herringbone tweed and costs £25. They are eager to meet you! Remember, you can enlarge any of the images by clicking on them.

In a week's time it will be Father's Day. Whilst we don't aim to cater for specific events of this type, we do have a variety of gift items that could be very happily received, depending on the Dad in question. It doesn't have to be socks or a tie!

Some might well love one of our new bears; for others we have cufflinks or key rings. How about a glass paperweight? We have three sizes, in either clear glass or black and white swirls, priced from only £3.50, which would make both a decorative and useful addition to a home office or study. Speaking of which, how about these decorative obelisks or even a table lamp or wall picture? They could all be the gift with a difference.

The latest addition to the ever popular WoodWick candle range is 'Trilogy'. Each jar offers three distinct but complementary fragrances as the flame burns lower. There are twelve different combinations, they burn for up to 100 hours and, of course, they all have the gently crackling wooden wick. At £12.95 we believe you won't find them cheaper locally. We still have their single fragrance candles too as well as a giftset trio, containing a mini candle, small reed diffuser and a car scent sachet at £18.95. All of them ideal for adding a little colour and fragrance to Summer.

We look forward to seeing you!
